Brittney Griner believed to be back in U.S. after release from Russia

A plane believed to be carrying Brittney Griner landed in the United States early Friday, nearly 10 months after the basketball star was detained in Russia and became the most high-profile American jailed abroad.

Griner was exchanged for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout on Thursday. A plane believed to be carrying her touched down at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas.

U.S. officials said Thursday that she would be offered specialized medical services and counseling upon her return but declined to go into specifics, citing privacy concerns.

Griner had been detained in Russia for nearly 10 months.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
